The 2016 Camaro And Infotainment Systems

by Steve

For the last 5 years we have been designing and building products for the very popular 2010-2015 Camaros.  Now, with our own 2016 Camaro on order and set to be delivered soon, we will be able to start designing custom items for the new car.  So stay tuned because we have already had a lot of interest from soon-to-be owners who are wanting to get the same kinds of upgrades into their new car that that had in their previous Camaro.  Once our car lands, we will be able to get to work and you will begin to see the products that we offer for it.  If you have any questions or have some ideas of things you would like to see that would give us some direction, by all means, give us a shout or write a review and leave us your thoughts.

What We have Learned So Far

So far we have learned that there are at least 2 types of audio system. Bose and Non Bose. The biggest difference between the new systems and the 5th gen systems is that unlike the Non Boston system in the 5th Gen both of the 6th Gen systems feature an amplifier. The Bose system is 9-speaker and the Non Bose system is 7 speaker. In addition to the front door mids and tweeters and center speaker, 2016 Camaros now have rear speakers next to the rear passengers.

Here's where it gets interesting. The Bose system features 6x9 speakers in the rear shelf and the Non Bose has no speakers there at all. See pic. This is obviously why the amps in the two systems are different. Also from what we have gathered, both are are now digital systems. Meaning the signals going from the radio to the amp are digital and cannot be intercepted by a line out converter like ordinary systems. And get this...An installer called me today and said that the Bose system is designed to create a low end rumble thru the speakers to enhance the exhaust noise. I'm not sure how wimpy the exhaust on these cars is I was hoping they would address the quietness after many 5th gen owners complain. But even with a simple exhaust upgrade, you can definitely hear that inside the car without the need for more electrics. Just not sure why they would spend so much coin on an audio exhaust sound instead of better exhaust systems.
