Building vs Buying a Sub Box

by webmaster

Should I build or buy my sub box? We see this question asked over and over again. Before answering this question, you should ask yourself a few other questions first. After spending good money on an amplifier and subwoofer, do you have enough left to buy a box? Can you save money or is it worth it just to purchase a box. The materials needed to make a basic, single subwoofer sealed box should run about $75 and a pre-made box anywhere from $30-$200, depending on the complexity of the design and materials and also who is making it. Don't forget tools. Do you have adequate tools to diy your sub box or will you end up spending more money for tools than what you would on the purchase of your box? Do you have time and know how? For some, the task is simply beyond their skill-set. Similarly many people find that they just don't have the time necessary to design and build their own cabinet and purchasing one would not only be faster but easier as well. Others may have the time, but not the tools or facilities to build one. For instance, those who live in cities or apartment complexes may not have access to a workshop. So before you decide to build or buy, be sure to take some of these other aspects into consideration.
